SignPost and Weill Cornell Medicine to conduct pilot study of BreastDefense analytical performance

First analytical validation milestone for SignPost’s AI-powered clinical decision support system for precision breast cancer care.

KINGSTON, ONTARIO, 25 September 2026. SignPost Cancer Analytics, Inc., developer of BreastDefense™, an AI-powered clinical decision support system for precision breast cancer care, today announced a research agreement with Weill Cornell Medicine to conduct a pilot study evaluating the analytical performance of BreastDefense using samples from breast cancer patients.

Under the agreement, Weill Cornell Medicine, a leading U.S. academic medical institution, will provide well-characterized breast cancer patient samples and associated clinical annotation, and its core laboratory will perform the sequencing on which the BreastDefense biological intelligence engine will be assessed.

About the pilot study

The pilot is the first of SignPost’s analytical validation studies. It is designed to determine how reliably BreastDefense characterizes disease in samples from patients whose tumor biology is already well documented, measured against performance thresholds set in advance of analysis. Results will inform the design of a larger cohort study intended to train and refine the BreastDefense model ahead of Version 1 of the platform.

About BreastDefense™

Breast cancer, the most common cancer in women globally, is managed today through a series of episodic diagnostic decisions, but the disease itself evolves continuously over time. BreastDefense is an AI-powered clinical decision support system, driven by a continuously learning biological intelligence engine, that integrates whole-genome molecular data with imaging and longitudinal clinical information to help clinicians detect, characterize, understand and longitudinally monitor each patient’s breast cancer journey.

Designed to participate across screening, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and surveillance, BreastDefense is intended to increase the value of existing breast imaging, molecular diagnostics and clinical workflows, not replace them. Its advantage does not depend on any single assay. As the dataset grows, the AI platform builds a consolidated proprietary collection of patient-specific breast cancer data of increasing value, creating a continuously improving longitudinal information layer.

Comment

“This study is the first external test of BreastDefense against real patient biology, and Weill Cornell Medicine is exactly the institution we wanted for it,” said Peter Blaney, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SignPost Cancer Analytics. “Their multidisciplinary oncology research expertise and the quality of their clinically characterized samples let us ask the question that matters most at this stage. Can our AI engine reliably connect the molecular signals in a patient’s blood to what the tumor is actually doing? Establishing that analytical performance is the foundation for everything that follows.”

“We are delighted to be supporting the clinical development of technologies that could advance our mission of using precision medicine to improve patient care,” said Dr. Olivier Elemento, Director of the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. “Understanding how an individual patient’s breast cancer behaves over time remains one of the central challenges in oncology, and rigorous, well-designed studies are how promising approaches earn their place in clinical practice.”
